User Permissions Guide

This article will show you the permissions required to complete different actions throughout the app. MediaSilo uses eight permissions to determine how a user can interact with the contents of a project. For example, the default role of “uploader” has two permissions: view and upload. A user can have a particular role in one project and a completely different role in another project. 

Administrators and project owners assign roles to users; a role can be one of MediaSilo’s default/premade roles, or a custom role made especially for your workspace. As an administrator, you can access a list of all the roles in your workspace, see the permissions for each role, edit a role’s permissions, and create new custom roles. All of these options are available in the Roles tab in Administration.

You can create a custom role by clicking the blue Add Role button in the top right corner of the Roles tab.

Managing Files

(1) A user can have upload permission only. In this case, the user is able to upload files to a project without the ability to view any files in the project, including the files they uploaded themselves.

(2) When a role includes external sharing permission, internal sharing permission is automatically included. There is no option for “external only” sharing.

(3) This refers to the action of dragging one file on top of another file to create a versioned file.

(4) A user can have upload permission only. In this case, the user is able to upload a folder or create a folder without the ability to view any folders in the project, including any folders they uploaded or created themselves.
