Generating and collecting HPE AHS logs from the command line

If your HPE server does not have an active or functioning iLO web UI, you can generate and download Active Health System (AHS) logs directly using the command line.

 

Step 1: Connect to the Server and Generate the Log

  1. Access the Server: Open a terminal directly on the EditShare server desktop, or establish an SSH connection to the server.


     

  2. Navigate to the File Exchange directory:
    cd ~/FileExchange/SMB/
  3. Generate the AHS log:
    sudo ilorest serverlogs --selectlog=AHS
    Expected Output:
     
    iLORest : RESTful Interface Tool version 4.9.0.0

Step 2: Download the Log File to a Client Machine

Choose one of the following methods to transfer the file to your workstation:
 

Option A: EditShare Connect

  1. Open EditShare Connect on your client machine and log in.
  2. Mount the SMB File Exchange drive.
  3. Copy the .ahs file to your local computer.

     

Note: If the SMB File Exchange share is not visible in EditShare Connect, it may have been hidden by your administrator. Use Option B instead.


 

Option B: SCP / SFTP Transfer

Use an SFTP client or terminal tool to copy the log file directly:
  • GUI Tools: Use software like CyberDuck or WinSCP.
  • Command Line (Linux / macOS / Windows Terminal): Use the standard scp command.
File Path Reference:
/home/editshare/FileExchange/SMB/<YOUR_AHS_FILENAME>.ahs
(Replace <YOUR_AHS_FILENAME> with the actual name generated in Step 1).
