Overview
To ensure seamless communication between EditShare servers, client workstations, and administrative tools, specific network ports must be open and accessible across your network infrastructure.
EditShare hosts an up-to-date, interactive list of all required and optional network ports directly on the EditShare Server Landing Page under the Documentation tab. This list is available for reference in both web (HTML) and structured data (YAML) formats.
Important Deployment Note:Firewalls are not expected between edit clients and EditShare servers on the local area network (LAN), as firewall inspection can restrict network throughput and impair high-bandwidth media performance. Instead, these port specifications are primarily intended for configuring edge firewalls and securing perimeter connections (e.g., remote access, multisite synchronization, or cloud integrations).
Accessing the Ports List
- Open a web browser on a workstation connected to your EditShare network.
- Navigate to the IP address or host name of your primary EditShare server (e.g.,
http://<your-server-ip>/). - On the landing page, navigate to the Documentation tab.
- Select Port List to view the live HTML page or download the YAML configuration file for reference.
Firewall Port Categories
The firewall documentation categorizes open ports based on system communication paths, deployment topology, and administrative workflows:
- Client Machine to EditShare Server Ports: Covers traffic generated by client workstations connecting to core EditShare services, including Web interfaces, EFS/SMB/NFS file mounting, FLOW web/media services, EFS storage interfaces, and auxiliary integrations.
- Administrator & System Management Ports: Defines access routes for system administrators performing remote management, system monitoring, status checks, RAID management, and desktop sessions (e.g., SSH, SNMP, IPMI/iLO, RDP/VNC, and status dashboards).
- Multisite Communication Ports: Specifies ports required for site-to-site communication, file transfers, and API gateways across multi-location EditShare deployments.
- Inter-Server Communication (Node-to-Node): Outlines internal traffic flowing strictly between EditShare servers within the same system, such as directory services, database replication, high-availability clustering, message queues, and internal system APIs.
- Client Machine Local Loopback Ports: Details ports used exclusively for internal loopback communication on local client machines running EditShare desktop applications.
If you require customized network configuration or assistance with edge firewall rules, please consult your network administrator.
