MediaSilo makes it easy to share your files with clients by creating proxies that play in every major browser. This is done so that your clients do not need to download any custom software for the best possible viewing experience.
However, many of the files users upload to MediaSilo are already web-playable. In these cases, your file is loaded into the web player as is. This allows you to use a proxy that has a higher resolution or bitrate than our standard proxy.
Criteria for Using Your Source File in the Player
If you encode your file with the following specifications, MediaSilo will pass it through to the video player directly:
- Extension: mp4
- Resolution: Anything less than 3840x2160
- Video Codec: H.264, H.265, or HEVC
- Audio Codec: AAC
High Quality Proxy Encode Process
If your source file does not conform to the above standard, especially if it is one of many video file formats that are not web-playable, MediaSilo will still support playback for it, but instead of passing through the source for playback only our proxies will be viewable in the MediaSilo player. Regardless if MediaSilo passes through the source, multiple proxies with several resolution options will be available for playback to allow viewing for low-bandwidth environments.
These proxies are created with the following specifications up to the original resolution of the source file with a max at 3840x2160:
- Extension: .mp4
- Resolution Options: 1280x720, 1920x1080, 2560x1440, 3840x2160
- Video Codec: H.264
- Audio Codec: AAC
- Frame Rate: matches source file
- Bitrate Mode: Variable
- Bitrate Based on Resolution: 1280x720(matches source file up to 5 Mbps), 1920x1080(matches source file up to 8 Mbps), 2560x1440(matches source file up to 10 Mbps), 3840x2160(matches source file up to 14 Mbps)
