MediaSilo supports multiple resolutions for the proxies which are created for review on the platform. MediaSilo offers these different resolution options to enhance your media viewing experience providing greater flexibility in reviewing and presenting content. Our platform offers a variety of resolution options to ensure your media is viewed in the best possible quality, tailored to your needs. Our higher resolution proxies give you flexibility and control over how your content is viewed, especially when dealing with bandwidth constraints or the need for quick loading times.
How It Works
Depending on the resolution of the video file you upload, MediaSilo will provide various options for playback resolution. Proxy resolutions are generated based on the height of the video in order to respect the source accurately. MediaSilo offers the following proxies: 720p, 1080p, 2K, 4K, and Original. Original indicates a proxy that was created using the same resolution as the source file, but is NOT the source file. Original proxies are generally based on video files with unique resolutions. These options are available only for streaming. The download option for proxies is only available as 720p.
Note: Watermarked files are only available in 720p regardless of the source resolution.
Below are the available scenarios and the proxies which will be generated.
1. Uploading a 1080p File
- Resolutions Available: 1080p, 720p
- What You’ll See: A resolution dropdown will be available in the video player, allowing you to toggle between 1080p and 720p proxies. These options allow you to choose between full HD and a lower resolution if bandwidth is limited or a quicker review is needed.
2. Uploading a File Higher Than 1080p
- Resolutions Available: 4k, 2k, 1080p, 720p or Original (based on source)
- What You’ll See: A resolution dropdown will appear, offering 4k, 2k, 1080p and 720p options. The original resolution may be available as a proxy, but your content will still be viewable in high quality.
3. Uploading a 720p File
- Resolutions Available: 720p
- What You’ll See: Since the file is already at the maximum available resolution, no other options will be presented in the resolution dropdown.
4. Uploading a File Lower Than 720p
- Resolutions Available: None
- What You’ll See: The file will play at its original resolution.
How Do I Set My Proxy Resolution?
Next to the gear icon in the MediaSilo video player is a Quality setting which will give a user the option to select the resolution they would like to display the video as. Once selected, this setting is saved as the default selection for every video the user views and can be changed again at any time.
