In this article, we will review best practices related to images in Spotlight, including brand logos, background images, and standalone images in your layout. Following these recommendations will help you and your audience avoid lag issues and ensure optimal load time for your Spotlight.
Brand Logo
As an administrator, you can upload your brand logo to the Branding page in Administration.
We recommend uploading a PNG file that is 300px by 150px. To avoid potential lag caused by larger files, uploads to the Brand Logo section are limited to 1MB and 3000px by 1500px.
A transparent background is also recommended so your logo’s background blends seamlessly with the background color or image you choose.
The image you upload to the Brand Logo section appears in two places:
- At the top of a Review Link that contains more than one file
- At the top of a Spotlight or Presentation created with a premade template
Premade templates are available in the Template Library:
When you choose one of these templates, your brand logo automatically appears at the top of the page.
If you want to replace an existing image with your brand logo, start by opening the properties panel on the right. With the image selected, go to the second tab in the properties panel and select Apply brand logo.
If a workspace administrator has not uploaded a brand logo yet, you can still drag a logo from your computer directly onto the template. In this case, make sure your PNG file is 300px by 150px.
Section Background Images
You can upload a background image for a specific section via the properties panel.
To prevent lag, we recommend a maximum file size of 5MB. The height of your background image should match the height of your section. You can set a section’s height at the top of the properties panel.
Standalone Images
In addition to logos and backgrounds, you can add standalone images to your Spotlight template – either by dragging an image from the Media Browser or from your computer.
You can also add an Image element from the Elements panel. This will insert a gray square as an image placeholder. Double-click the square to select the file you want to upload from your computer.
Because large images can result in longer load times, we recommend optimizing your images for web and keeping them 5MB or less. As a rule of thumb, a layout shouldn’t need a standalone image wider than 1200px.
A popup message will let you know if the file you are adding to a template is over 5MB. In this case, you can upload a smaller file, or you can use the image optimization button described below. You can also dismiss the message and proceed with a file that may increase your Spotlight’s load time.
Image Optimization
The properties panel includes an optimization option that you can apply to individual images. This option lets you create a smaller, lower resolution file that won’t significantly increase your Spotlight load time.
To optimize an image, open the properties panel on the right. With the image selected, go to Image Options and click the checkbox next to Optimize.
If you change your mind, you can uncheck the box and revert to the original, unoptimized file.
Note that the Optimize option supports a maximum of 268,402,689 total pixels per single image. For example, you can optimize an image that is 16383px by 16383px, but a larger file cannot be optimized.
