This article will show you how to download files from a Spotlight media gallery. We’ll also review how to enable downloading as the Spotlight creator. To learn about downloading files from Projects or from a Review Link, please see Download Files and Folders from a Project or Download Files from a Review Link.
Download Files as a Viewer
When you open a Spotlight, the location of the download button will vary depending on the type of media gallery used. To download a file from a grid, carousel, or stack, just hover over its thumbnail image and click the download arrow in the top left.
To download a file from a list gallery, click the download arrow at the end of a row.
With the exception of watermarked content, downloading a file from a Spotlight will download the source file that was uploaded to MediaSilo. The name of the downloaded file will match the name of the original source file. In Projects, you may have the option to download a file using its original filename or its asset title (Click here to learn more.) This option is not available in Review Links or Presentations.
When you download a watermarked file, the watermarking is still applied to the downloaded file. For videos, the downloaded file is a 720p proxy with the burned-in watermark.
At this time, mobile viewing is not supported for Spotlights or Presentations. Please open Spotlights and Presentations in your desktop browser. |
What if I don’t see the download button?
If you don’t see a download button, please reach out to the Spotlight sender. The ability to download files depends on the Spotlight’s settings.
Enable Downloading in a Spotlight
To give your audience the ability to download files from a Spotlight, you must allow downloading in two places:
- The playlist that contains the files
- The gallery that contains the playlist
Step 1: Enable downloading on the playlist level
When you create a playlist, the Create Playlist window contains an “Allow download” toggle. If you want viewers to download files from this playlist, be sure to turn this on.
If you’ve already created a playlist, you can change its settings whenever you’d like. First, open the playlist in the Playlists tab on the right. Then, click the gear icon, and select Edit.
This will open the Edit Playlist window, where you can turn on the “Allow download” toggle. Click Update to save your changes.
You also have the option to create and edit playlists without leaving the Spotlight template builder. Start by clicking the playlist button in the toolbar on the left.
This opens a panel containing all the playlists you have access to. Click the blue plus sign to create a new playlist. To update an existing playlist, click the three-dots button next to the playlist name, and select Edit.
Step 2: Enable downloading on the media gallery
Once you enable downloading on the playlist level, you need to enable downloading on the media gallery. This system gives you the option to allow downloading in some Spotlights but not others.
In the template builder, select the media gallery that contains your playlist. Then, click the arrow in the top right to open the properties panel.
Go to the second tab in the properties panel. Click the box next to “Allow download.”
If this button is not clickable, then make sure you’ve enabled downloading on the playlist level, as described above under Step 1.
When you’re done making changes to your Spotlight, click the Save button along the top of the page, followed by the Update button.
Keep in mind that each playlist and each media gallery has its own settings. If your Spotlight contains multiple media galleries, be sure to adjust the settings of each one to your liking.
You can preview your Spotlight by clicking the Preview button along the top of the page. Downloading does not work in Preview mode. You can only download files from the actual Spotlight link itself. |
