Download a File
You can download a file by clicking the three-dots button on the thumbnail, followed by the download option.
In list view, you’ll find the three-dots button at the end of each row.
As an alternative to the three-dots button, you can simply right-click on a file to access the options menu, whether you’re in grid or list view.
If you don’t see the download option, then your role does not have download permission. Please reach out to a project owner or administrator to assign you a role with download permission. Keep in mind that you can have different roles in different projects.
For video files, you’ll have the option to download either the source file that was uploaded to MediaSilo or a lower resolution 720p proxy.
Depending on your workspace-level settings, you may have the option to download a file with its original filename or with its asset title.
Note that this option is not available for watermarked projects; files downloaded from watermarked projects will keep their original filenames.
“Original Filename” refers to the name of the file that was originally uploaded to MediaSilo. The “Asset Title” is, by default, the same as the filename, though it can be edited in MediaSilo by users with editing permission.
As an administrator, you can restrict users to downloading files with their original filenames only, or you can give them the option to download a file with its original filename or its asset title. This workspace setting is available under Administration > Settings > General. Click here to learn more.
Another way to download a file is to select the file and then click the download button in the top right. With the exception of watermarked content, this button will download the source file that was uploaded to MediaSilo.
Administrators can determine whether this button downloads a file with its original filename or with its asset title by default (Administration > Settings > General).
Download options are also available when you open a file in Projects. You can click the download button in the top right, or (for more options) select Download from the options menu.
Downloading Watermarked FilesWhen downloading watermarked videos, the downloaded file will be a 720p proxy with the burned-in watermark. Keep in mind that a watermarked file (video, image, or document) keeps its watermarking when it is downloaded. To download a file without watermarking, a project owner or administrator would need to turn off watermarking for the project. Any file downloaded from a watermarked project will keep its original filename (the name of the file that was originally uploaded to MediaSilo). Please note that we watermark files on demand for download which mean watermarked files can sometimes take longer to download than non-watermarked files. |
Download a Folder
You can download entire folders using the MediaSilo desktop app. Just click the three-dots button on a folder, and select Download. Note that downloading folders is not supported in the browser version of MediaSilo.
Download Multiple Files and Folders
To download more than one file or folder, you can lasso-select or shift-click to select multiple items at once. Then, click the download button.
To download a mix of files and folders, hold the Command key (Mac) or the Control key (Windows) and click on the items you want to download. Then, click the download button. Keep in mind that you’ll need to use the MediaSilo desktop app to download folders. Downloading folders is not supported in the browser version of MediaSilo.
If you’re interested in bulk downloading files or folders from different projects, consider using the collection bin (See Download Content from the Collection Bin below).
Download Content from the Collection Bin
The collection bin is a place where you can add files and folders from different projects and then download them all at once. (You can also share the contents of the collection bin or save them as a playlist.)
To open the collection bin, go to the navigation bar along the left side of the page, and click the square with the dashed line.
You can add files and folders to the collection bin by dragging them into the bin or by dragging them directly into the collection-bin icon in the navigation bar.
When you’re done adding items, click the download button along the bottom of the bin.
Download permission is still required when downloading files from the collection bin. If you don’t have permission to download some of the files in the bin, a message will alert you.
To download folders from the collection bin, please use the MediaSilo desktop app.
Uploads and Downloads Panel
You can view a list of your recent uploads and downloads by clicking the icon with the up and down arrows in the navigation bar.
This will open the Uploads and Downloads panel on the right side of the page. The information contained in this panel will depend on whether you're using the MediaSilo desktop app or the browser version of MediaSilo.
In the desktop app, the Uploads and Downloads panel shows a list of:
- the files you uploaded and downloaded
- the files contained inside a folder you uploaded
- the name of a folder you downloaded
In the browser app, the panel shows a list of:
- the files you uploaded
- the files contained inside a folder you uploaded
- any watermarked files you are in the process of downloading, including watermarked videos, images, and documents. Once the watermarked file finishes downloading, it is no longer listed in the panel. For a complete list of the files you've downloaded (watermarked and unwatermarked), please check your browser's download manager.
Keep in mind you need the MediaSilo desktop app to download folders.
Download Troubleshooting
We recommend you upload files no larger than 30GB to MediaSilo. If you attempt to download a file that is over 30GB, the file may download slowly or, depending on how large the file is, the download may fail. For optimal download performance, please use the MediaSilo desktop app.
If you don’t see a download button at all, then your role does not have download permission. Your role in a project determines the actions you can take. You can reach out to a project owner or administrator to assign you a role with download permission.
