FLOW Browse / FLOW Logger – Rosetta Required on macOS 27

Issue

When launching an Intel-based EditShare application such as FLOW Browse or FLOW Logger for the first time on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 27 Golden Gate, macOS may display the following message:

To use Intel-based apps, you will need to install Rosetta.

This occurs because the application is built for Intel (x86_64) processors and requires Apple’s Rosetta 2 translation software to run on Apple Silicon Macs.

Resolution

1. Close FLOW Browse or FLOW Logger if it is currently open.
2. In the Rosetta prompt, click Install.
3. Enter macOS administrator credentials if requested.
4. Wait for the Rosetta installation to complete.
5. Launch FLOW Browse or FLOW Logger again.

Rosetta is installed system-wide, so this normally only needs to be completed once on each Mac.

Rosetta can also be installed manually from Terminal:

sudo softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

Once the installation has completed, launch the FLOW application again.

Important macOS 28 compatibility notice

macOS 27 also warns that:

Intel-based apps requiring Rosetta will not open in macOS 28, the next major release.

FLOW Browse and FLOW Logger can therefore continue to run on macOS 27 using Rosetta, but Intel-only versions will not run on macOS 28. A native Apple Silicon-compatible version of the application will be required for macOS 28.
