If you receive a popup which says "Unsupported macOS Version", or "The installed version of EFSFUSE is too old" popup when attempting an EFS mount on mac it means that the version of FUSE running with the installed version of EditShare Connect on your system isn't supported by the macOS version you're running.
Fix: Install the right client
We always recommend using ESC clients which match the server version.
| macOS | Minimum ESC version |
|---|---|
| 11 Big Sur | 2021.2.0 |
| 12 Monterey | 2022.1.0 |
| 13 Ventura | 2022.3.1 |
| 14 Sonoma | 2023.1.2 |
| 15 Sequoia | 2024.1.1 |
| 26 Tahoe | 2025.2.0 |
| 27 Golden Gate | 2026.3.0 |
If you see "No Route to Host", go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network and turn EditShare Connect on (or off and on again). If you do not see EditShare Connect as an option in Local Network then please reinstall EditShare Connect.
Why it happens
EditShare Connect mounts EFS through EFSFUSE, an Apple-approved kernel extension. Each major macOS release needs an EFSFUSE build made for it, so a client that worked yesterday can stop mounting after a macOS update. SMB mounts don't use EFSFUSE, which is why they usually keep working.
If you can't upgrade your server immediately older ESC clients can usually still mount spaces over SMB.
To avoid this scenario in the future, be sure to confirm that your EditShare server is running a version with a corresponding EditShare Connect for Mac which is compatible with your macOS version prior to upgrading your workstation.
