Introduction:
If your servers are running EditShare version 2024.2.0 or later, upgrading your EditShare cluster can be done via the EFS Control. Here are the steps that need to be taken to do so.
System Check
Health Report
First thing you'll need to do prior to upgrading is check the health of your system to make sure there are no present errors. Each of the servers that will be upgraded should be booted and functioning.
To run a health report, go to your server's homepage and select the tab that says "Status" at the top.
Once you're redirected, select "Server Status" and enter your EditShare credentials when prompted
Now that you're in, make sure all the boxes are checked and scroll down and hit submit all.
Once you've received the Health Report, check for any reported errors. Examples include:
- Drives reported offline
- Server nodes going offline
- Drives reported as "missing"
- Broken OS drive mirrors
- File System Usage Report
- Any other critical errors
Any errors found must be addressed before moving forward with the upgrade.
EFS Status
After you've confirmed your health report does not contain any errors or you have addressed any that did, you now need to check that all the servers in the cluster are available and online. To do so, go back to your homepage and select the Status tab again, and this time click "EFS Status".
Check the Info Page and make sure there are no unavailable regular files
Next, we'll do a quick check to make sure that the servers are in functional condition. Log in to Flow Control. Select the Systems tab on the left. Are there any red lights or services showing as crashed?
License Support Date
Licenses have a support date for your EditShare system. If the support date of your license has passed or if it's prior to the release of specific software, you will not be entitled to upgrade.
To check the Support License end date go to EFS Control. In EFS Control, select System then License. If you believe the License End Date is incorrect, reach out to Editshare Technical Support. We will be happy to verify the support contract and give you a new license if the date proves incorrect.
Once these steps have been taken, you are now ready to move forward with the upgrade.
Upgrader Tool
To access the Upgrader Tool, log into EFS Control. Click "Systems" on the left-hand side and click "Upgrades". This tool gives you the option to search for upgrades online, OR you can use an offline updater.
Offline Updating:
If your system is offline or does not have access to the internet, you will need to update offline.
Go to updates.editshare.com and log in. Besides the current software release, select the downloads button. Scroll down to where it says Offline Updater. Download the .esu file listed.
Beside the current software release, select the downloads button. Scroll down to where it says Offline Updater. Download the .esu file listed.
Go back to the Upgrader Tool and click "choose file" under offline updater. You'll search for the file in your system that you downloaded and select it.
Once it populates, you can select "Start Upgrade".
Online Updating:
Click Search for Upgrades, The online update pathway will trigger a search to see if there are any upgrades available.
Please note, this upgrader applies to all of the servers in a cluster and does so in order.
Once it populates, you can select "Start Upgrade"
There will be an option to wait for EFS chunk replication before upgrading each storage server. This is only applicable for larger clusters in an xor configuration that do not want to experience down time. It will take considerable longer.
After the upgrade completes, go to the Previous Upgrades Tab
Then you can click show details for the specifics on each server.
